LONDON-EDINBURGH-LONDON

Only held once every four years since 1989, London-Edinburgh-London holds a special place in the calendars of long-distance cyclists. Although not officially a race, riders are allowed a maximum of 100 hours to over the 1,433km course, passing through 15 control points on route.

Starting from the outskirts of London, the route passes through the flat lands of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire before crossing the Humber Bridge and entering the tougher territories of Yorkshire, Co Durham and Cumbria. The Scottish Border heralds more stiff climbing on the run-in into Edinburgh, all of which has to be tackled again on the return leg.
